Michael Bennett Skips OTAs, 'Trying To Get Contract Right'

May 31, 2015 11:18 PM

Michael Bennett was a no-show for the Seattle Seahawks' organized team activities this week as he attempts to get a new contract.

"Trying to get the contract right," Bennett said Friday at a charity event, per The Seattle Times. "I'll be there shortly. I don't know when I'll be there. Depends on the team and stuff. See how it works out."

In just the second season of a four-year, $28.5 million deal he inked last March, Bennett confirmed that he asked Seattle's front office for more money.

"Somewhere near the top seven at my position, top eight at my position," Bennett said after playing 85 percent of the team's snaps on defense last season. "Not a lot of guys play inside and out (tackle and end). Not a lot of guys do what I do. So I feel like I should be somewhere near there."

Said Bennett: "I just want to be in the realm of the guys that play like me."

The Buffalo Bills cut Jeff Tuel in order to claim Matt Simms off waivers from the New York Jets.

Tuel was a favorite of former Bills' head coach Doug Marrone, while Simms spent the past two seasons under Ryan with the Jets.

Simms faces long odds of even making the Bills' roster as they have Matt Cassel, Tyrod Taylor and EJ Manuel competing for the starting quarterback spot.

Adrian Peterson released the following statement explaining his absence from OTAs with the Minnesota Vikings.

Brandon Spikes Returns To Patriots On One-Year Deal

May 18, 2015 11:28 AM

The New England Patriots have re-signed Brandon Spikes to a one-year deal.

Spikes played for the Patriots from 2010 to 2013 before signing a one-year deal with the Bills in 2014. His departure from New England included some fireworks, as he was placed on season-ending injured reserve in the playoffs and questioned the team's decision to do so.

ESPN NFL Insider Chris Mortensen had reported that the Patriots and Spikes mutually agreed to the IR designation as opposed to an outright release after the linebacker was late to a team meeting that week. That essentially ended any chance Spikes would return in 2014, with the hard-hitting outspoken linebacker saying he was happy to move on to "somewhere you're wanted."

Steven Jackson Wants To Keep Playing But Retire With Rams

May 14, 2015 1:28 PM

Steven Jackson is still looking for an opportunity to continue his playing career.

Jackson is the NFL's active leading career rusher.

"That's the thing," Jackson told ESPN.com. "I have all the things I've accomplished personally, but I've still never been on a team that won more than eight games. That would be definitely one of the things that I'm looking for is that opportunity in my next chapter."

Jackson spent his first nine seasons with the St. Louis Rams and wants to retire with the franchise.

"I definitely want to retire as a Ram," Jackson said. "It's definitely something I want and that would be to go back. ... I'll never forget standing in that meeting room and watching Isaac Bruce retire. When I saw that up close and personal, I said I want that for myself whenever I retire."
